A week before the Storm we recced part of the course.

Chandon Batia, Niaz Ali and Ashish Gupta.

Niaz Ali with one of the locals.

The local bus.

Stone is used for myriad purposes in Rajasthan.

Typical village.

A local.

Ashish Gupta and Kim Epton, early morning in some small village somewhere in the wilds of Rajasthan.

.

Looking out over the desert from a Temple. The tracks to the right were wrong.  Those to the left lead to the Checkpoint.

It was like this for many a kilometre.

Temple in the desert.

The only feature across an enormous dry lake bed.

We got caught behind this (and numerous others like it) on our return to Delhi from our recce in Rajasthan.

More trucks. India would be defunct without these trucks.

Highway travel is problematic as one gets caught behind thousands of these trucks - limited to 40 kph.
Kilometre after kilometre of trucks slow progress on what otherwise would be high speed roads.
They don't know about keeping left.

After the recce we went shopping for shock absorbers.

Transportation in India varies from this

to this,

to this.
